If you suspect that you may be entitled to child support payments but are unsure about the specifics, there are several steps you can take to find out if you have child support money in Puerto Rico:
Contact the Puerto Rico Child Support Services (CSS): The CSS is responsible for managing child support cases in Puerto Rico. Reach out to their office to inquire about your case and whether any child support payments have been made on your behalf. You can find their contact information on their official website or by searching online for “Puerto Rico Child Support Services.”
Provide necessary information: When contacting the CSS, be prepared to provide relevant details such as your full name, the name of the other parent, your child’s name and birthdate, and any other information related to your case. This will help the CSS locate your file and provide you with accurate information.
Visit a local CSS office: If you prefer to speak with someone in person, you can visit a local CSS office in Puerto Rico. Check their website or call ahead to confirm their address and operating hours. Be sure to bring any supporting documents you have related to your case, such as court orders or previous correspondence.
Consult with an attorney: If you’re facing difficulties obtaining information or navigating the child support system, consulting with a family law attorney who specializes in child support cases can be beneficial. They can provide guidance, assist in obtaining the necessary information, and represent your interests if necessary.
Online access or mobile apps: Some child support agencies provide online portals or mobile apps that allow individuals to access their case information, including payment details. Check if the Puerto Rico CSS offers such services and create an account if available. This can provide you with convenient access to your child support case information.
Remember, the process may vary slightly depending on the specific rules and procedures followed by the Puerto Rico CSS. It’s always recommended to directly contact the CSS or consult with a legal professional to ensure accurate and up-to-date information regarding your child support case.
