I am applying for a passport. I have an outstanding principal balance of 9131.66 dollars.

Q) I am writing because i am interested in applying for a passport. I currently have an outstanding principal balance of 9131.66 dollars. However i do not have monthly arrears due at this time. I understand that if I owe more than 2500.00 i cannot obtain a passport unless i have made a satisfactory payment arrangement with lake region child support which I believe we have at the current moment. My monthly obligation is 475.00 and i pay an additional 95.00 dollars a month to my principal balance. My question is with this in mind, based on Section 51.70 (a) (8) of Title 22 of the Code of Federal Regulations, if lake region can report the fact that acceptable payment arrangements have been made to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)?

A) According to Section 51.70(a)(8) of Title 22 of the Code of Federal Regulations, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) can be informed about the existence of satisfactory payment arrangements made with Lake Region Child Support for individuals who owe more than $2,500 in outstanding child support.

As long as you have made an acceptable payment arrangement with Lake Region and are paying your monthly obligation and additional payment towards your principal balance, it is possible for HHS to be informed of this arrangement. However, it’s best to verify this with your local child support agency or a government official to ensure that you meet the requirements and to make sure your information is accurate.
