Overpaid the child support for $1400. Office acts like the money was never there
Q) I was divorced in Lebanon, MO and overpaid the child support for $1400. I called about it and was told the money was in West Plains MO. I called them and a woman at that office said the money was there. The Covid came and the offices closed. Now the West Plains office acts like the money was never there and I can’t even get an answer from Jeff City. Who took my money. I have never been behind in child support. Now, my son is 19 years old and works full time and makes more money than me and the Division of Child support still takes money from my pay check and gives to his mother. She lives with another man and she works full time. I want my money without having to pay an attorney to retrieve it. The State of Missouri Child Support is horrible and I want answers. Thanks for your help
A) I’m sorry to hear that you’re having difficulties with your child support payments in Missouri. I don’t have access to specific information about your case, but I can provide you with some general guidance.
First, you should continue trying to contact the Missouri Division of Child Support Enforcement (DCSE) to inquire about the overpayment of child support. You can find the contact information for your local DCSE office on the Missouri Department of Social Services website or by calling the customer service number at 1-800-859-7999.
If you are unable to get a response from your local DCSE office, you may want to try contacting the Missouri State Ombudsman’s office. They can help you navigate the child support system and may be able to assist you in resolving your issue.
It’s also worth noting that if you believe you have overpaid child support, you can request a refund of the overpayment. You can do this by contacting your local DCSE office and providing them with evidence of the overpayment.
Regarding the ongoing child support payments, if your son is now 19 years old and working full time, it’s possible that he is no longer eligible for child support payments. You may want to contact your local DCSE office to inquire about modifying the child support order to reflect your son’s changed circumstances.
I hope this information helps, and I wish you the best in resolving your child support issue.
